Diversity Organizations Paper Dagenais J. Garrett Eth/125 October 19, 2014 Maria Watts Diversity Organizations Paper Throughout most of history, women have endured so much. They almost always had fewer legal rights and career opportunities. The main professions tied to women were wifehood and motherhood. According to Womens History in America (1995), â€Å"Women were long considered naturally weaker than men, squeamish, and unable to perform work requiring muscular or intellectual development.† The common stereotype was â€Å"a woman’s place is in the home.† Women went through the struggles of not being able to get an education, voice their opinions, not having the right to vote, and being viewed as property. Gladly, the role women†¦show more content†¦For 17 years the military had a don’t ask, don’t tell policy but on September 20th, 2011, the repeal of the policy went into action. Now gay men and lesbians are allowed to serve openly in the military. (Gay Rights In the U.S. Today, n.d.). There are also more states legalizing gay marriage including, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, North Carolina, and Alaska all in 2014. The Gay amp; Lesbian Alliance against Defamation (GLAAD) organization founded in 1985, speaks out for the LBGT community through print, broadcast and online news sources to help build support and equality. With GLAAD working through the media, it helps inform the viewers to lead them to support equality. The people of LGBT have been working very hard for equality and they deserve it because they are no different from anyone else. When looking at social and political issues relevant to women and LGBT people, we see that women do not make as much as their male counterparts, and unfortunately this is not based on their qualified skills and knowledge, it is pretty much based on the idea that men are somehow superior, and are better qualified witch is very unfortunate. It seems like women and LGBT fall short together as the second class. LGBT people fight to be treated like regular people.
